HEY RQR!!! - yes you! - you who gave the first answer!
One can only cross-multiply when there is an EQUAL sign between the fractions, not an ADDITION sign! You're solution is bogus!
I'm going to bed now - I'll work on the problem tomorrow - good night!
Good morning! Use the quadratic formula - put the equations into the form: ax^2 + bx + c = 0, then put the appropriate values into the quadratic formula and solve.

a) you have nothing to worry, just do the same as the fractions!
u need to use the quadratic formula on 0 = 2x^2-7x-20 to get
x = 14.22841615 and x = -0.228416147
b) much more complex, first, swap the 3/x to the other side by minusing both sides. The denominator is x^2-x. Now, change the x(x-1) which is the same as x^2-2x toget x = 2/2/3 (two and two thirds)

a)
(4 / (x + 5) + (3 / ( x - 5) = -2
4(x - 5) + 3(x + 5) = -2(x + 5)(x - 5)
4x - 20 + 3x + 15 = -2(x^2 - 25)
7x - 5 = - 2x^2 + 50
2x^2 + 7x - 55 = 0
x = (- 7 ± √(49 + 2*4*55))/4
x = (- 7 ± √(49 + 440))/4
x = (- 7 ± √489)/4
x = (- 7 ± 22.113)/4
x = -29.113, 15.113

b)
(x + 5) / (x^2 - x) + (3/x)= 1 / (x - 1)
(x + 5) / (x(x - 1)) + (3/x)= 1 / (x - 1)
x + 5 + 3(x - 1) = 1x
x + 5 + 3x - 3 = x
3x = -2
x = -2/3

For a: cross multiply...so 4*(x-5) + 3*(x+5) = -2 so 4x-20 + 3x + 15 = -2

7x-5=-2 and 7x = 3 ===> x = 3/7

so the same thing for problem b
