I mean, everyone does, but is there anything that differentiates a Californian accent from everyone else?

I'm from there & just wondering....

Every friend that I've ever had who has been from some other state has said that I have an accent. They've said that I talk faster than than people from their states (Washington, Missouri, North Carolina, etc). In fact, I"ve had people differentiate my "southern california accent" from folks in northern california. Hmmm...

People all have accents they develop in their childhood. From the age of about six, though, the accent is stabilised, and from then on you're stuck with it.
Californians do have an accent, and no matter how long they've been here in Australia, I can pick it immediately. East coasters also have accents which can be easily separated from Californians. Even Australians have regional accents, although the differences are less marked..

The "typical" California accent is a middle accent, similar to Chicago without the twang. Most news broadcasters on the national level have developed this "middle type" accent and it is difficult for most to determine where they are actually from.

Of course the Californian have a definite accent!
It is so unique that it can be clearly recognised as distinctively Californian!

My friends in New York think so. As a matter of fact my cousins in Oklahoma think so too. They all say I sound like a Californian. So I guess we do.
