Maximus woudl win in the arena and on the field of war. William Wallace was good, but he was no soldier and no gladiator. Maximus trained his whole life for battle. William Wallace was just thrust into it.

Maximus would win because he's already prepared for this kind of fighting since he's a gladiator but, Wallace was just a rebel soldier like person. he wouldn't be as prepared as Maximus. come on Maximus fought tigers and buff, tall guys with BIG, SHARP weapons and still won. Maximus was a soldier and a gladiator and Wallace was just a soldier not even a real soldier even though he is a good fighter. Russell would wip Mel's a s s!!!! William fought for his country and what HE believed was right (which is important) but, Maximus fought for his family and the love and memory he had for his family.

MAXIMUS, MAXIMUS!!!! Maximus has been trained for battle. He was a military leader in the Roman army and as a gladiator fought "lions and tigers and bears oh my" j/k :P .
William Wallace was great at rallying the troops and a good fighter but when he died he cut up and Maximus went down fighting till the end.

great question!! the answer could go either way both men were great fighters and had true belief in what they were fighting for, one for the freedom of his people and land the other for his freedom and revenge. we could look at this from several views the actors who played them, Crow, one of the most hard core actors out there, this guy will knock you out if you get him drunk, mad, or just for no reason, had made several great films all the way from romper stomper to proof of life, heck he even has a band!, then you have Gibson, one of the few actors to make it thru the 90's with a career still to talk about, has made hundreds of films which have been in most of any genre you can name, not only is he an actor but a director himself, so he can hire and fire almost any one in Hollywood, but he does have his own demons to deal with, his current battle of alcohol and racist tongue wagging. with all that said i think we can clearly make a choice now... it would have to Maximus, he's young, more hot headed and well, gladiator was a little bit better then braveheart, the love story to it was not as loud as it was in braveheart, and not to mention the opening fight scene in gladiator ruled!
