In the U.S., I suspect "women's roles" will be more individualistic and based on personal preference, as they are starting to become now. I think that there will be greater balance between the sexes and less sentimentality toward mother roles and the "Barbie" stereotype (though some ditzes in Hollywood sure seem to give her a good imitation, like Paris Hilton).

Some women will do laundry, some will raise kids, and some will win the Nobel Prize in Physics. Who knows what these awesome women may do?

But let's not forget about other parts of the world.

If you're speaking of women under Sharia Law (some parts of Islam), I suspect their role will be the same in 2020 as it is today: As intellectual imbeciles, trained from youth to be defenders of their husband's misogyny, all while restricting their lives to traditional jobs and high birth rates. Sorry, just had to get that in. :-)

They will be either total "domestic engineers" and mothers etc. or they will be totally career oriented but not try to be both like they do today. The cool thing is that people will think both roles are acceptable. No one will consider the first option weak or the second option cold...it will simply be a family choice. (hopefully)
