If you ask them, they will probably say that Eric is the better one. Right now, the better brother is Jordan because of his stats (leads the league with 6 shorthanded goals). However, last year Eric did have 45 goals and 100 points, so if Jordan doesn't get there, or finish more goals and points than his brother when its all said and done, Eric is better. What can't be argued against, however, is that that family, the Staals, is THE hockey family of our time, with Eric and Jordan already in the NHL, Marc going to be there soon, and Jared ripping it up in the OHL and going to be in the NHL at some point as well. They are going to be something to watch when they're all here.

I think that Eric Staal is the better of the brothers. Not only did he lead Carolina to a Stanley Cup last year, he has 26 goals and 34 assists. Jordan has 26 goals also but only 8 assists. Eric is showing great leadership on his team. Jordan is more of a rising star, Eric is already a star. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future Jordan passes Eric in the goals and assists column.
But as for right now Eric is definitely the better of the two

Eric is better at the moment. They are tied in goals but at the same time Eric never kills penalties. Also, Eric is responsible for 34 assists to Jordan's 8. This shows a bigger contribution to overall goals and linemates. Eric is also not benefiting as much from those around him, where as Jordan is playing on a line with Mark Recchi and Sydney Crosby. I think in time both players will only get better. Eric is a superstar and Jordan is on his way, but at the moment Eric is the better player.
as to the other answers Jordan is younger. Eric is the oldest, Marc Staal, then Jordan, and Jared is the youngest.
Erik Cole broke his neck last year on dirty hit by the Penguins Brooks Orpik, not Eric Staal

Eric has established himself as a star. Jordan, who I think deserves serious consideration for the Calder, is a great player this year, but must establish himself before he can steal his older brothers prestige. RedSoxBrett, I don't know what you are talking about, Jordan is the younger brother. This is a good question since the Staal family is one of the best genetics that have hit any sport and in a couple years there might be the same question with multiple Staal's being mentioned.

It's a hard comparison and a good question, but u have to look @ Eric's numbers last year when he lead that team into the playoffs and came out with a Stanley Cup Ring. Many people seem to think now that Jordan is doing just as well as his lil bro, that hes better or is going to be better, true his league leading short handed goals is something staal has never done, but Jordan has it a little easier with Crosby, Malkin, Gonchar, Armstrong, Talbot, etc. With Eric, u don't have that same supporting cast, but they've gained guys like Scott Walker, and now Eric Cole is back from his neck injury. Depending on this years playoffs is when we can decided who is better, but i think Eric will take it due to the supporting cast that Jordan has, and the none existent one that Eric had.

Eric is better and has proven more so far... Jordan has played only a third of the games in his short career as his older brother and it will take some time before it can be known for certain if he's better of not. Even disregarding the Cup last year... Eric has put up better career points per game numbers so far.
It's very early in their careers for both these brothers though so comparing them already is pretty useless... give them a few more years and we'll see who has made a bigger impact on their teams and in the league.

They are both really good. Eric won the cup last year and had a good year, but this season it's Jordan, he has been very impressive on a young Penguins team.
But don't forget they are still two more Staals in the OHL. Marc and Jared, they both play for Sudbury, and a lot of people are saying that Marc is going to be the best.
So I guess we will have to wait and see.

Jordan leads the league in both shorthanded goals and points, so that has to be taken into consideration.
But one thing that im not sure alot of people know about is that in the middle of last year, Orpik either sprained or broke Eric Staal's neck (it might have been a sprain but i remember alot of commentators saying it was broken for some reason) and they said he might never play again. He managed to return for the playoffs and helped to lead the Hurricanes to the Cup.
Right now its too early to tell. Even though im a pens fan im going to lead towards Eric, but both are still young its too early to tell.
Dont forget they have another younger brother, i think his name is Chase, correct me if im wrong.

i think of that Eric Staal is the extra effective of the brothers. no longer in simple terms did he lead Carolina to a Stanley Cup final twelve months, he has 26 objectives and 34 assists. Jordan has 26 objectives additionally yet in simple terms 8 assists. Eric is exhibiting super management on his team. Jordan is extra of a turning out to be famous individual, Eric is already a famous individual. i does no longer be shocked if interior the destiny Jordan passes Eric interior the objectives and assists column. yet as for real now Eric is unquestionably the extra effective of the two
