Is it true that when the baby goes through a growth spurt it moves less? I've been told that when baby is working really hard growing, they have less time for kicking and doing somersaults, so thyey sleep more.

When the baby gets big enough to where it gets crowded in the womb, he/she will still move, it's just you will notice times when the baby is more active than others. The baby will have sleeping patterns and you will definately notice.

You will actually begin to recognize body parts that move across the belly, like an elbow or foot. My biggest baby use to like to position himself pointing down, with his butt up against my rib cage. When he was born, he weighed 11 pounds 9 ounces and was 23 1/2 inches long, but that was highly unusual for a newborn to be tha size.
My other two boys were 19 inches and 20 inches respectively, and each weighed 8 pounds. Still a good size, but more average.

The most important thing is if you go more than 24 hours with no movement, call your doctor. He will tell you when to become concerned from non-movement.

Babies in utereo go through regular cycles of sleep and wakefulness like us, though usually it's backwards to us since they can't tell the difference. And as the baby gets bigger there's less room to move around, so the movements are less frequent. As to the thing about the growth spurts, I've never heard anything like that, and I doubt that's true since they're going through a growth spurt the whole time they're in there.
