yes they can. It is the same as drinking or doing drugs during pregnancy. The after affects arent as bad I dont think though. I had a friend that smoked during her pregnancy, and her baby was born with lung problems. If you can quit it is so worth it. I quit when we decided to try for a baby, I didnt want to smoke while I was pregnant, and I knew that if I got pregnant first I would use every excuse in the book to keep smoking. It isnt as hard as it seems if you really put your mind to it. Best of luck. If you are thinking about quiting, talk to your doctor about using the patch. It worked for me after only 2 weeks I didnt smoke again or wear the patch anymore.

If a woman is pregnant, the baby can be affected by the nicotine. That is why if you can't quit by the 2ND trimester, some doc's will tell you not to quit at all, just cut back b/c the baby and you could have some unhealthy with-drawl symptoms.

Whatever goes in to a mothers bloodstream goes in to her baby's bloodstream.
I dont believe the withdrawl symptoms would be as severe as crack though.
