Normally one does not have control on the proceeding events that shape our personality, but as it is said "Prevention is better than cure", we can definitely take certain preventive steps to protect our self from the harmful effects of the events. As for example now a days HIV positive phenomena is dreadful thing which is threatening each one of us, in such situations we have to understand the matter , act positively and save the humanity from its harmful effects. Therefore, one has to be alert and conscious for all the proceeding events.

Some we do, especially in adulthood, after we have become self-aware. And conversely, some we don't. Big events such as the death of a loved one, accidents that drastically change our lives, and some smaller events we don't give much thought to until they are long past and we are only just realizing the effect they have had on us.
Once events begin to appear in a pattern we recognize we can conciously choose our reactions.

NO!

It is funny when people say they would do this or that if they ever faced a similar situation. When in fact, they pretty much act the opposite. The truth is, you never really know what you are going to do until you are faced with the situation. You may think you will act a certain way, but you will never know until you actually do.

That is what "Talk is cheap" and "Monday Morning Quarterbacks" or "Arm Chair Quaterbacks" are.

well, you can't pick your parents but to some extent you can pick your environment at least when you turn 18.

I heard about these twins that were adopted at birth by seperate families and they found eachother and turns out they had the same job type, drove the same car, even smoked the same brand of cigs. They were adopted by 2 completely different families. Learned about this in Psych 101 in college.

Not likely!,

Unless one makes a conscious decision to effect change.

Usually that only happens when things get so bad there is no choice but to wake up.

Actually it really isn`t even personality, it is YOU.

Yes and no. You can act calmly under nerve-raking conditions helping you become a stable person. No because things other people do to you (abuse) can shape your personality for the worst.

Yes - its that whole destiny versus fate debate. Deep down there is a reason we choose to do what we do, bit like a self fulfilling prophecy
