She never replaces it! How irritating is that when you have done your #1 or # 2 and there is none? I have to get up off the pot and go get some in the cabinet. It's gross! and inconsiderate.

I have told her over and over again. Our bathroom is small. I am trying to teach her to be responsible and have respect for others. She is 15.

Even if it was right in front of her she would not replace it. I tried that.

I only grounded her from the PC. Not anything else.

I am tough, but she also is an excellent student and does not get into trouble at school. I am teaching her to be responsible. I must be doing something right.

I don't think it is the toilet paper that is the issue here. She is doing something repetedly that you have asked her not to! That is why I think your punishment fits. Stick to it, and don't make any exceptions when she forgets next time!

She won't hate you for this! I just hope when she goes to college and has a roommate that she will totally "get" what you are trying to teach her! Be considerate of others! Show simple acts of kindness and respect!

LOL--- A WEEK??? Yes I think that is a bit harsh. All over a pet-peeve "we" have? You what's WORSE??? seeing a half of a roll sitting on top of an empty ROLL!!! The last person couldnt even take the empty off and put the new one on, and anyone after was just too lazy to do the same!!!! I get HOT! lol-- But everyone has certain things that ERRRK us. Now if she did it alllll the time, then I could see a punishment behind it, but at least start with a weekend or take something else away and let her know that everytime she does it, the punishment will grow. This teaches her that no matter how dumb she may think a rule is, as long as she lives there, she has to follow house rules. This will also prepare her for work. She has to learn that rules are rules. :) G-luck

Good Grief! What on earth are you going to do if your teen does something really wrong?!? This punishment in no way fits the crime and is much too harsh given the circumstances. You say that your daughter is basically a good kid - so pick your battles. And when something minor irritates you, take a deep breath and count your blessings. To solve this particular issue, why not find a new spot for spare rolls of TP so that it is within easy reach. In the meantime, like others have suggested, remove the TP completely so your daughter experiences this inconvenience. When I became fed up with tripping over my teenage son's shoes, which he always left in the middle of the hall right in front of the door - and asking him nicely and not nicely failed to work for more that 15 minutes! - I began doing exactly the same thing. He tripped over my shoes almost right away, started giving ME heck, then stopped suddenly when he saw me grinning and said, "Oh. I get it." I only had to repeat this a few times to break him of this irritating habit. Good luck.

It's your kid, but I'd say that's a little harsh. Maybe grounding for a day or two would work, but not for a whole week since it's something really trivial. Plus, depending on her age, she may simply not think or remember about it.

Maybe you could take the roll out when you're not using it so she'll get an idea of what it's like.

Let the punishment fit the crime.

Oh, and you can always just keep some next to the toilet in a toilet paper holder. They're available everywhere, and are cheap.

I don't believe in grounding...when you ground a teen what you get is a whiner. I'm not fond of whining. Besides use of a computer in our home was considered a privliege and all priveliges had to be earned. I also never had a problem with my daughter replacing the toilet paper. I have a toilet paper holder that holds 5 rolls of toilet paper so I don't need to leave it in a cabinet...the holder sits right next to the toilet so when one roll is gone there is always another one to replace it.

So just have an exta roll or keep the stock in there. It's not like she randomly decides.."Hey I think I'll forget to replace the toilet paper" I mean come on!!!
Cut her some slack.

also she doesn't live in the bathroom so be glad she has better things to do than check the toilet paper.

how old was the kid? yeah to harsh. unless replacing the TP was one of her chores so something. we all forget sometimes, but i have a TP holder i fill it up myself. i make sure that both bathrooms have at least one extra roll handy. you should be adult enough also to look before you sit hun. i clean the family bathroom myself and make sure theres plenty. my 7 & 8 yr old girls have a chore of there small bathroom to clean, but still i make sure there is TP there. i would not have grounded her just told her she forgot to replace it thats all. i mean what did she get all ticked off at you when you told her she didnt replace it or what?

well you are probably doing your job if she isnt doing it after being told over and over then yeah you did the right thing.

A little too harsh. Maybe you could come up with a creative toilet paper punishment. That wouldn't be too harsh and she'd definately learn the lesson. But a week for a common mistake (you've probably made it too, or at least did when you were young)... At the same time, at least you are grounding and not yelling or spanking. Shows you have some sense, I guess that means you have good judgement. Good luck with all of it!

That is way too harsh. Why don't you do this. Don't replace the toilet paper, have some or yourself, but don't replace it. Eventually she will understand that unless she does it, she is going to be without the toilet paper when she needs.

That isn't right. That is WAY too harsh. If you know it is a problem for you before you sit down you need to check for toilet paper. True she should replace it, but you cant get mad because YOU didn't bother looking for the toilet paper until too late. That inst her fault.
