The situation was handled so poorly after the storm, as if nothing happened. When the Leves Failed a Spike Lee documentry was a perfect example.I lived in New Orleans and it was indeed one of poorest tows in the US and that's how we were treated and looked upon.Dead bodies were on main business streets weeks and months after the storm as life still went on and the deceased was visible and ignored. Were talking about citizens of the US. Those people were someone's daughter, husband, and grandmothers. That's not the US I know.Is money really the issue? I don't think so. Maybe the Gov. belives 800 billion dollars is just not worth rebuilding the city.At least rebuild the leves. It wouldn't cost more than the war in Iraq. Two visits a year by the president with his meaningless words wont bring back the dead.Everyone makes mistakes but this one could have been avoided. Is it so hard to say they were wrong. Everyone knows it should have been handled better.Bush in office wont rebuild the city.

No. The response of our federal government has been shameful. The incompetence is staggering. It has shown how many campaign contributors have been put into positions of responsibility in this administration in order to have "full control" for political shenanigans.
Can't wait to get these crooks out of office.

It is a shame that a vital port city of such economic, cultural, and historic significance has been left to flounder as if it were an inconveniently located summer resort.

If things are not being done, then something is up. Could mean your state and the federal goverment are lacking funds to deal with the situation? If this is the case, then bankruptcy must not be too far behind or the corruption in the levels of goverment are getting out of hand. Maybe relief money came in but all the officials took a "personal share" of it and none of it got to where it susposed to go?

If it is becuse the goverment lacks the will, then this also indicates the officials don't care about the citizens and only care about themselves, their power and wealth.

The last question is New Orleans still in a state of emergency and the State Guard still used to keep order? If still that way after a 1 year and a third later, then this may answer your question. The truth may be the officials do not want to restore order and leave it in a mess for as long as they do, they can still retain these "emergency powers" even if the emergency is long over.

The National-Union understands the comparison to the White House and Congress blind-sightedness towards the abuses of Iraq's civilians, where soldiers abused victims of dictatorship. New Orleans in similar comparison, where billions of dollars have been wasted. There have been news coverages about the healthcare scandal and Hurricane Katrina scandal, where citizens weren't receiving the monetary amount promised. These scandals are creating another huge federal deficit. This is why the National-Union presidential candidate has chosen his cabinet as listed:
U.S. Secretary of State will be a former Attorney General.
U.S. Secretary of Defense will be a former Inspector General.
U.S. EPA Secretary will be a former Civil Court Judge.
U.S. Attorney General will be a former Criminal Justice Judge.
U.S. Homeland Security which includes FEMA, will be a former
Clerk Comptroller.
U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services will be a medical scientist.
U.S. Secretary of Education will be a former family court magistrate.
U.S. Secretary of Energy will be a research scientist.

Is it the Federal Government's problem the New Orleans crime rate is higher than anywhere else in the nation, too??

It's sooo easy to blame the Feds for all your problems...big, bad, nasty Republicans, right?

Wake up and take some responsibility for yourselves! If you aren't happy, then move away (as about half the population already has done). Otherwise, live with the consequences of living below sea level. My taxes shouldn't pay for constant stupidity.

Yes, and I heard him say that. Why should the Federal government build your plan. What's wrong with your state? They're supposed to be in charge. It is your state government that is holding the money back. Billions have been spent already and there are more billions for people to rebuild their homes. He said it's in the form of grant money, and that it's in the hands of the N.O. government. It's now up to them to dispurse the money.

People have to stop blaming Bush for everything...like the Hurricane was his fault. When people are naive enough to live 600 feet below sea level, what could one expect? The levies should have been taken care of a multitude of years ago...but some things are up to the state government to take care of. The state I live in appropriates funds for everything to be maintained properly. We vote on tax increases and assestments, and we work to pay for those assessments.

When Colorado suffered the severity of the winter hazzards they had with deaths and power outages and their homes and vehicles being burried in the snow, they did not ask the Federal government for assistance. When people in Michigan suffer from flooding rivers, we don't ask the Federal government for help. We have poor people here too, but the cities, townships, counties and state pay for these things with our tax money.

If N.O. government has not figured out to this day how to appropriate funds, then why should it fall on the shoulders of every citizen of the U.S.?

Living 600 ft. below sea level is not the smartest thing in the world to do...and now that everyone knows, and still rebuilds there, then I say...sorry if they are not intelligent enough to head for higher ground.

Why is it anyone's responsibility to rebuild a city in a well known flood-storm-hurricane area? Gimme a break.

When someone lives in a hazardous area, it's THEIR problem if something happens.

What happened to accountability in this country??

Maybe it isn't such a great idea to live below sea level in a tropical area.

I live in an earthquake prone area and if my house gets leveled by an earthquake, it'll be MY problem to fix it.

Nagin and Blanco should be tried for crimes against humanity for all of the pain and suffering they caused. Always expecting a free handout. They are worse than Hitler.
