Do not use uv lights with your snakes. Snakes and other nocturnal reptiles do not benefit from uv lighting and it can be harmful to the reptiles. Snakes get their vitamin d from their food, since they eat animals whole they get plenty of nourishment.
UV lights put out very little heat anyway. I use either red or black bulbs or ceramic for heat, ceramic is fairly expensive but it lasts much longer than bulbs.
I also use heat strips on a thermostat and keep the room my reptiles are housed in at 80 degrees for the ambient temp.
If you have a snake that refuses to feed you can try some uvb lighting to see if it sparks them into wanting to feed. This is not proven but worth a shot, I have read about it a few times. Then again, snakes do come out of their hides in the wild 30-40 min before sunset and stay out 30-40 min after sunrise, so they do get some natural uv in the wild.

Yes they do.
Different types of lights deliver different types of heat too. There is a night light that is made from blue UV rays that plays the night role, its the tank around 75 degrees. The heat UV gets the tank between 85-95, depending on your wattage, and that one is red. Then there is a day light which is orange and keeps the tank around 80 depending on your wattage.
You want to get a night light and a day light so that you can keep your snake on a night and day schedule. I noticed people say that they use only night lights and regualr bulbs, but don't do that.
A regular bulb can ruin your snake by projecting too much light for it to be able to hunt. Snakes have thermo vision and a bright light can ruin them. That's why UV is the way to go because that is how they see with their thermo, they see everything in the same pigment as UV colors.
And if you don't put them on a day/night schedule, they WILL be stressed out. They are nocturnal, but only in the sense that only eat and hunt at night. They need extra heat and light to fully digest their food because they are cold blooded creatures. That's how a matabism works....through heat.
Without heat, they will be stressed. Without day light, they will be stressed. They have a sense of time too. They know when they need to be hunting and when they need to be active.

it depends on what u mean bu "UV" if your talking about UVA/UVB supplemental lighting that adds nutrients that sunlight has to the light the answer would be no for most snakes especially the nocturnal types, but if your just talking about the heat bulb that is reddish in color that is infrared and its a light to heat your tank and give off a light that the reptile cant see but you can still see your snake at night, and since they do need light cycles just like in the wild those lights are good to watch your pet with at night,. it would also help if you said what type of snake you have or are planning on getting.

it fairly is surely maximum appropriate, in case you do not grant UV lights then there is not any nutrition D for the Snake which facilitates the snake do such issues as take in calcium, then in case you do not have a snake getting calcium then they have vulnerable bones and advance rickets. in spite of this an stunning style of nocturnal pspecies want much less gentle than the diurnal ones. yet even though in case you have a UV gentle working on a timer for some hours on a daily basis. you will have a much extra useful snake in case you provide them some UV. all of us that tells you they dont is in basic terms irresponsible. Edit - i'm uncertain as to the strategies-blowing technology of it yet there is the elementary theory Edit -Sorry Pitbulllady, i'm an experienced reptile keeper. I surely have appeared after many reptiles and learnt from experts. in case you be conscious the conduct of a few of those noocturnal pythons etc you will nevertheless be conscious them basking interior the sunlight for short classes of time.Nocturnal potential maximum energetic at evening and looking out at evening. I surely have seen Liasis Stimsoni hangling areas of their bodies out of rock crevices to digest their prey interior the direction of the day. I surely have seen Morelia Bredli sitting up out f their hollows in huge river pink gums to bask and digest interior the early morning sunlight. i'm confident a South American Snake might nevertheless want comparable exposure etc as Australian snakes. that's genuine that they don't seem to be as companies to metabolic bone ailment yet they surely can nevertheless get it. Edit - gray wanderers remark appropriate to the snakes getting calcium from animals they consume is right, even however you require nutrition D to absorb calcium into the bones and you are going to be able to get that from UV B gentle subsequently the want for UV rays.
