One would start with the basic flammability, which is usually mitigated by coatings or other chemicals.

However, most building materials, particularly for residences are only flame RESISTANT. That means that they'll char, smolder, etc., but not burn for a specified length of time. Since we recently reroofed, I know that many roofing materials are certified to resist burning for 4 hours, but after that, all bets are off.

the factor that hot air rises,there is more oxygen closer to the floor,although now days they use a lot of toxins in floor coverings
