Really depends on how its done, If the person cuts from right to left.. there is a very good chance that they never had the intentions to die in the first place but merely to get everyone excited.. Now if they really wanted to die by slitting the wrist.. one should take a very Sharpe object and go up and down and at the same time press down as if cutting a rug with a razor blade.. this definitely will work.. Don't worry about the blooding going everywhere cause you will not be around the clean it up.

If it is done right, that someone bleeds to death.
Then, if they have done it at home, that person is found in a pool of blood by his/her loved one(s).
The police and ambulance comes and after the loved one(s) give a statement of what happened that night, the ambulance bags that person's body and takes it to the coroner.
Then there is the cost of cleaning up the bloody mess AND the funeral arrangements, calling all the relatives and friends and planning the funeral, the casket unless the body will be creamated.
After the funeral, the loved one(s) go home and go through the grieving process. Some loved ones don't get over it. That means they stay stuck with all the pain and guilt and never heal.
But other loved ones get help by talking to a counselor or therapist and move on. After awhile they heal.
If you know someone who has been doing it to try and kill themself, it's time to tell someone in authority. A parent or a teacher or a minister, rabbi, priest.
This person might be a teen girl or boy that cuts themselves in order to feel something, anything other than the emotional pain they are going through. Even then, you have a responsibility to tell someone in authority so that this person can get the help he/she needs.

Slashing or slitting one's wrists entails cutting through the wrists until one of the arteries was damaged. There would be slow blood loss from the radial and/or the ulnar artery.
It is not an immediately lethal method, as the arteries tend to try to spasm shut in response to blood loss. Bleeding to death by veins is even harder and rarer. It can take a few hours or even more to finally die from the blood loss, depending on a number of variables. This method is also frequently used as self-harm, therefore, not all people who slash their wrists intend suicide (this is then called parasuicide where suicide is either not sought or is not accomplished). In these cases, there may be collateral damage to nerves and tendons, which could cause partial loss of sensation, or the ability to control one's hand.

They can die. The person you know is probably not slitting their wrists that severely yet, merely creating scars to get attention (A cry for help). The person is probably depressed. If this person is your friend, you need to inform someone such as their parents or guidance counceler so they can get the help they need.

They'll have nasty scars on their wrists. They might get an infection from the blade. They might actually cut it too deep that they may have to go to the ER. It's usually a sign of depression. Seek help from an adult or tell the person's parents.

Well, that would depends if the person knows how to slit their writs to commit suicide, but if they get caught and the ambulance and police comes, I think they would be admitted to a hospital and a psych evaluation would be done.

If they cut the wrong direction, they will eventually just clot up and have scarring.
If they cut it in the right direction, and deep, they will bleed to death.
If you have a friend who is doing this, they need some serious help, and if you are a friend, you might want to step up to the plate and help them.
