Aftermarket tint is applied to the inside. Factory tint is part of the glass. Your friend is a kook.

I believe with all the episodes of Unique Auto I've watched, the window tint is on the inside of the car. It is a very thin layer of plastic film that can easily be damaged if it was put on the out side of a window. Factory tint is applied in between the panes of glass so it can't be damaged either way. Most windows will draw all the grit and dirt that's on them down over the rubber seal when they are lowered, that will scratch the film and cause it to become blurred or even scratch into it all the way through.

The tint could desire to be place on the interior, yet some much less costly installers placed them on the exterior. My pal did this, left his window warmers on whilst it replace into icy, and melted the tint off the domicile windows.

Aftermarket tint is applied to the inside, unless some knucklehead put it on the outside... it wouldn't last long.
