soft or hard don't really care . NO HOT sauce .
Hot sauce = fire in / fire out :) and even fire in between .

Soft Shell With Hot Sauce, But I do like the hard ones crumbled up in a taco salad.

Definitely soft shell. Better for you and easier to chew.
Not sure on the hot sauce, but for me the answer is no hot sauce because of my digestive problems. Other than that it is personal preference.

Ok, here's what I like...
The Taco shell, soft or hard, is fine but I prefer a different approach.
I still make the Taco filling, chopped onion, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, perhaps some Avocado, and yes, a (La Victoria) "medium heat" Taco Sauce...
with a nice dollop of sour cream on top.
but, instead I put it on a Flour Tortilla that I have put in some foil and then in the oven for a few minutes to heat them up..
or even a large, hot skillet...put in the tortilla and turn it over after a minute or so...
and then stuff all your favorite items and roll it up burrito style.
Much neater, and very delicious.

hard shell taco and exxxtra hot sauce soft shells make me so sick to my stomach and its not a taco without any hot sauce
