The Vice President, Speaker of the House, President pro-tempore (who is usually the Senate leader, but often defined as the longest-serving member of the U.S. Senate), then successor to the House Speaker who has become President - ALTHOUGH Madison, who was the key author of the U.S. Constitution said that the successor could be any "Officer", i.e. Senator or member of the administration, and Al Haig once claimed that next in line after the VP was the Secretary of State.
