Bargain would be a relative term. No professional athlete at this point outperforms his paycheck. The salaries have become ludicrous and are ruining attitudes and effort. You never used to see guys turn down an all-star selection because they were "tired", but they make so much money that nothing else matters. The negative effect is that it is becoming prohibitive to take a family to a ballgame..in any sport. It is totally out of control when you see "journeyman" ballplayers making 2-5 million a year and anyone no matter how good making $10, $20-25 million for a season. The agent then gets his cut, the government gets a bunch and I pay $35 plus a ton for a hot dog and parking to go to a ball game...incredible

It was Miguel Cabrera at $472,000 for 3 years hit over .300, 33HRs in the first 2 years, 26 last year with .339 BA.

Right now Ryan Howard is the bargain at $900k. Next year he won't be such a bargain and then in 3 years we can post questions about being overpaid like A-Rod or Soriano when his team doesn't win championships. Is anyone really satisfied?

It's hard to answer, because until a player clears enough years in the majors, he can be paid nearly minimum wage (until arbitration kicks in).

So, at least in baseball, as this is the category you're posting in, Ryan Howard is one of the biggest bargains, signing a contract for only $ 900,000 for MVP-like numbers.

Lebron james. gets like 5 mill a yr and Lary Hughes gets 13mill. Basketball is weird like that so it would have to be a baller in his young days. As far as vet player i would say Hines Ward last year good stats and not even close to a top 30 paid wr. Baseball is that HR guy from last year cant think of his name just got a 900k raise and still underpayed. Ohh yea and Bernie Kosar.

Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Howard one year $900,000 is just not going to cut it for a guy who it 50+ homers.

Chien-Ming Wang, pitcher for the Yankees. He only make a little over $300,000 and he came in second place for the AL Cy Young. He was tied for the league-lead in wins and has a nasty sinker that batters describe as trying to hit a bowling ball.
