Check out their friends. A person really can be judged by the company they keep.
Also, if you suspect someone is fake; they probably are. You picked up on something which set off alarms -- trust your instincts.

There is really only one way to find out, if u mean fake as in online then the only thing to do is ignore them or take a trusted friend(perhaps someone 18 yrs or older) and meet them but if you think they are a fake person then there is not an exact way to tell but if you find them talking about there selves to much or exagerating about them and/or there family then they could be fake or if the just straight up use you

A fake usually makes a few mistakes. If we recognize them,
we can catch. I will give an example:
One person posed as if he is President Bush:

People started giving answers believing that he is the President.
There is a spelling mistake in the name America. I suspected some thing

You have to search for minor details like this.

You can basically tell by facial expressions and the way that they are talking. If you know the person and they seem to be talking unlike they usually do, you know something is up.
