The Stooges were obviously the most influential having done it all 6 years before the Ramones kicked it up again, but who did it best? The Pistols were the embodiement of the attitude and turned out some of the top 10 best punk tracks ever, The Clash were as close to perfection as you could get and were musically diverse with a good political message, the Damned are just plain fun with some of the best songs out there, and nothing you said about the Ramones could be overstated. My favorite has to be the Clash, the rest are a toss up, I'd add the Heartbreakers, and the Velvet Underground too. Ugh such good music. ( I realize I left out tons of great essential bands but I wanted to narrow it down to the bare necesities).

It's funny, I knew a lot of metal heads because I was one of the onlt punks in my school and one of the only bands I could get my best metal head friend into was the Ramones. Must be the blistering fast heavily distorted riffs?

Normally I'm very opinonated and I'd report you all for disagreeing with me about the Clash being the best, but the Ramones are a close second and I love them all so much I can't blame anyone for liking one over the other.

People are always opinionated about the Clash, whether they love them or hate them. I think jerks like me build them up to be some magnificent statue of perfection that it pisses off the people who disagree. But sorry they're my favorite and I'd never call them overrated, the rest of that post was perfect though :)

The Ramones are getting some well deserved love here, I like it. I'm actually wear a Ramones presidential seal shirt right now.
