Obviously, someone does not know what the office of the President of the US has the ability to accomplish ...
YOU need to start writing and protesting where it is due ... and that is at the HQ of all the OIL companies and their CEOs. THAT is the way to protest this problem with the fuel costs rising like they are (Even though the cost of a barrel of oil is down). THEIR Profits are up ... and yes, we CONSUMERS need to complain THERE!

I'm not a Bush fan...largely due to his decision of going into war, which I believe create a really big problem & mess in many different ways. However, I'd just like to get the facts straight:
Gas/oil is an international commodity. Being an international commodity, its price is controlled by the economic pattern of suppy and demand of the whole world. It's not something that anybody or any president or any country can really control.
USA is not the only biggest consumer of gas/oil; developing countries like China have been big consumers as well. This high demand drives gas prices up! Political uncertainties, anticipation of war(s), anticipation of a higher demand of oil in the future, etc, don't help, either.
Rumours about USA's going to go into Iran, for example, would drive gas prices even higher because some countries (e.g. China), who currently get some of their oil supplies from Iran, anticipate the possibility of losing one of their biggest oil suppliers in the future if the war really does happen (so they start stocking up for their oil reserve starting now, buying even more oil now, which drives demand up even more, etc). I heard that even USA, after 9/11 happened, is putting aside some oil reserve in case of emergency (e.g. future war or terrorist attack, etc) for x many gallons each day. So, really, all this buying because of anticipation of future events are actually the one to blame.

Organized American protest on a grand scale (enough to attract world news networks) ought to do the trick nicely--and maybe even pit greedy Big Lobbists in D.C. against each other---and against American Big Oil!!
1) Americans need to STOP COLD buying new cars--and cite rising gas prices as the reason. This will have Detroit Motown (a HUGE political lobby) angry at American Big Oil.
2) Americans need to CANCEL any vacation trip plans--again, citing rising gas pump prices as the reason. This will quickly get local and NATIONAL tourist lobby groups gnawing mad at American Big Oil, too.
3) This idea is a stretch, but it's been circulating around and is worth a mention--IF it could be organized and done right: Americans need to hold a one day 24 hour span of time.....where ALL NON-EMERGENCY vehicle traffic simply stops....COLD. Work? Call in for one day--ain't gonna hurt anyone!
All these ideas, done in INTELLEGENT American protest, can resonate a far clearer message to the empowered in politics and American Big Oil much much better than any picket line, sign waving events outside Big Oil HQ gates.
Smack Big Oil on the rear by gnawing on their profits...and other Big Lobby profits, too.....and you can sit back and enjoy what happens next. And it's about time we see that, don't you think?

It's the taxes on gasoline that are so high. I don't think contacting the president about gasoline taxes will help much. Try your local politicians first. Vote against anyone who wants to increase taxes. Also, vote for those who will allow drilling in this country. That will lower prices somewhat and help us not to be so dependent on foreign oil.
See, you have all the solutions to lowering gas prices already.

There's not much we can do..other than just quit driving. Give a message to your local senate. And that's a waste of time in my opin. HE is ripping us to pieces.. Sounds like a Hitler to me. So you tell me what do we need to do? Whatever it needs to be heard from ALL of us Americans who are scratching around making ends meet. All of us need to speak up and say we are tired of being shook by the neck.. Gas should not be a prob... We are barely making ends meet .. food on the table. Paying utilites. etc. Let me know and I will help with your request. Its horrible.BUT at least we are free that is in one aspect.. But how long are we Free?
