I wanted to do the across the top 5 inches of my 50 gallon tank with a one way mirrio so I can see TV from the kithen but stil have the back covered. will the mirror freak out the fish they are chiclids.
Thanks for the advice.

Yes, the mirror could excite the fish. This is a device commonly used to get bettas to flare. It can cause territorial fish such as cichlids to charge the glass and we don't want the fish smashing their faces on the glass. You're going to have to come up with another arrangement for the tv or something.

OK I am going to take the oppisite point of view here. I had a mirror on the back of one of my betta tanks for years. Over the time I had it on there, I had 4 different bettas in that tank with the mirror, and not a single one ever hurt himself. After a day or so they figure out that there is no other fish and they stop trying to attack their reflection. They would try every know and then, but never enough to hurt themselves. Fish are not stupid you know...

I won't work. The fish will end up killing themselves by smashing their faces in the glass as the person above said. They will think it's another fish. Your gonna have to come up with something else.

no way, it would be cool if u put a mirror as a background but u should have a fancy tank,
