Losing your plug doesn't mean instant labor. It could be hours or even weeks away still. Frustrating as it is, each pregnancy is as different as each labor is and is different as each baby is. The mucous plug can be dislodged without any provocation; it often happens after a cervical check in the clinic but does not give any real indication of when labor is to begin.
Although, if the back pain is persistant even with change in activity or position I would suggest calling your doctor....
In the days or weeks before labor, Braxton Hicks contractions become rhythmic, relatively close together, and even painful, at times fooling you into thinking you're in labor. But unlike true labor, during this so-called "false labor" the contractions don't grow consistently longer, stronger, and closer together. This is what you want to look for...
hope this helps.... And good luck!!

You could be losing your mucus plug. After losing the mucus plug, it could still be 2 weeks before actual labor.
Persistant back pain could be contractions. Some women experience them that way. Or it could be a back ache from being 100 years pregnant (or that's how it feels anyway).
No need to rush off to the doc unless you have serious medical reason for doing so. Even if you are in labor, you are probably in early labor. The danger of going to the hosp in early labor includes a higher risk of interventions and a c/s. Labor can also stall if you go to the hosp too soon (assuming you're planning a hosp birth).
Chances are, you'll KNOW when you are trully in labor and need to go to the hosp. If you have to ask, you probably arn't very far along.

you can't really say if you are going to go into labor tonight just because you lose your mucus plug. When you get contractions you will know TRUST ME!! they will hurt like hell. Back pain could be the start of labor i had back labor also with me first. Try to have sex or walk that will help a lot.

when in doubt, either call the doctor or the maternity floor at the hospital for instructions. my labor (with each of my 2 kids) started off slowly, kind of like a menstrual cramp and would radiate towards my back. if your discharge looks bloody, definetely go to the hospital. also, i lost my mucus plug (most of it anyway) 8 days before the birth of my son. i would suggest that you not take a bath, the job of the mucus plug is to block the opening of the cervix and sitting in a bath with bacteria isnt a good idea because some of it could make its way upwards and potentially cause infection--advice from my obgyn. good luck!

although ur mucus plug has been released ait does not mean ur gonna go into labor immeadiatley, it could take up to 3 days, however if the back pain gets more intense kinda like menstrual cramps moving towards the bottom of ur belly, time them if they are anywhere from 10- 15 min. apart ur most likely going into labor. a good way to tell also is lay on ur bed, and if ur stomache is poking up as if ur belly is stretching up ur definitly in labor, congrats n good luck!!!
