If you mean county, the U.S. is divided into 3,141 "county-equivalent units". Over 3,000 of them are actually called counties, but the rest are parishes (Louisiana), independent cities (Virginia and others), boroughs and census areas (Alaska), and so on.
The largest county-equivalent unit by area is Alaska's Yukon-Koyukuk census area, 144,441 sq. mi. (bigger than all but four states). The second-largest is North Slope borough. If you eliminate all the boroughs and census areas, the largest remaining is San Bernardino county, California, 20,062 sq. mi. (still bigger than any of the nine smallest states).
In terms of population, the biggest county is Los Angeles (9,519,338 in the 200 census). Second comes Cook county, Illinois, Chicago's county.
