Started out with a Fender Strat pack with an RP80 multi-effects pedal.
My parents are looking at an Ibanez with Floyd Rose Tremolo and a Marshall. I've been looking at a Ephiphone G-400 SG. And a Marshall Cabinet. Any suggestions?

it depends on the style of music you play/would to like play and if you're going to continue playing. if you're going to be playing in a band, go for a cabinet or at least an amp that would be loud enough for shows. if not, get something that sounds good to you, but won't break the bank.

any equipment between $300-$600 would be good. also, remember if you keep everything in good condition and later you decide to get rid of it, you can still get some of that money back.

a friend of mine has the epiphone you're talking about, it's pretty good especially for the price. he swapped the pickups out, but it sounded decent with the stock pickups. if you have the money though, go for the gibson sg or even the les paul.
