Yes, dolphins do mate. Courtship usually occurs before mating, and can last several hours. When she is ready to mate, the female sends out signals through sound, body language, changes in shape and color of her genital area, and by a change in the chemical composition of her urine. When dolphins do mate, male and female come belly to belly in order to do so. Typically, when ready to mate, the male swims under the female, and mating only lasts 10 to 30 seconds.

The penis of the male is internal, in order for the dolphin to maintian its streamlined shape, and is retained within a prepuce. Externally, there is a slit on the underside of the dolphin (in both males and females) where the genitals are contianed. The slit is below the navel and above the anal slit.
