Not much really. A workstation is just a desktop PC you use at work that connects you to your companies servers so you can do your work.

The difference is not that great nowadays with Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

A workstation is generally more powerful than a normal desktop PC. A workstation has lots of RAM, powerful processor, very good graphics card, large monitor, large harddisk.
A desktop PC can be old and have lesser processor speed, less RAM, smaller monitor, smaller harddisk.
The distinction between them is not very great when we consider a low end workstation and a high-end desktop PC.
A workstation can also be on Wifi, LAN, WAN, internet and all sorts of networking stuff.
