It's the bbq sauce that gets you b/c of the sugar content. If you only use salt, pepper, & garlic, for ex., the food will taste great when you grill it even w/out the sauce. Also, try to expand beyond the typical bbq menu of ribs & steak. There is skinless chicken, eggplant/ zucchini w/ olive oil, turkey, shish kebab, lamb, etc. Try bbq foods from different ethnic groups, such as Persian food or Asian food. Not only is it tasty, it's usually lower in fat and sugar.

You can suck on BBQ rib bones after someone has eaten the meat. All the flavor, but not many calories!

BBQ is not bad for diets. Any chicken should have the skin removed...most fattening!
Good luck....

Don't quote me on this, but my logic is telling me that these would probably be pretty safe prospects:
Pineapple
Onion
Tomato
Fish (wrapped in foil)
Char-grilled chicken (doesn't need extra flavouring)
A thinly sliced potato might be ok too.
