The toilet is only two years old, and our other toilet (which is 10 years old) has no musty odor and is fine.I can smell the odor immediately on entering the bathroom, I know mustiness is a sign of moisture or a leak and I sniffed around the base of the toilet, and other areas in the bathroom and it only seems to be coming from the toilet tank in back. I can't figure out why just the toilet tank smells. Any suggestions?

Also, I checked inside the tank and there doesn't appear to be any mold or mildew, everything looks clean.

Pour a little liquid bleach into the tank, maybe one teaspoon, no more. Let it set for awhile and then flush. It that doesn't take care of it, then the odor must be coming from somewhere else. Is the tank up against the wall? Condensation may have caused mold to form between the tank and the wall, and you may not be able to see it. If not, make sure the bolts that hold the toilet to the base are tight (pop off the white plastic covers and check the tightness of the bolts). Sometimes, over time, these can work loose and the toilet can leak through the wax ring between the toilet and the base, and soak into the subflooring under your tile. This happened to me and I had to replace the subfloor because it was only chipboard which swells when it gets wet. (A pox upon the "contractor"-owner who built it!!!).

It sounds like mold or mildew. Take the top of the tank off and check to see if there is dark staining on the inside of the lid or above the water line inside the tank. If there is, scrub it off using bleach. Put about two cups of bleach into the tank and let sit for about an hour. The mildew could also originate from inside the toilet rim. Pour a cup of bleach down the small plastic tube ( 1 inch wide) inside the tank next to the flapper. Do this three or four times, once every hour.
I hope this solves your problem.

on occasion while i exploit bleach to scrub the rest room it variety of feels to have a urine-like scent, i understand this sounds strange, yet its seems to..... by "empty the drain" i'm noticeably constructive you mean to make the rest room tank and bowl empty of water. if it particularly is the case, it particularly is somewhat trouble-free: a million.) First get an previous towel handly, or paper towels and a bag (to throw them away in while they're moist later. 2.) detect the knob that turns the water to the rest room on and stale, it frequently has a steel hose working from tank to wall and a rectangular knob. turn that knob all a thank you to the appropriate till it feels particularly tight. 3.) Flush the toileta few cases till there is little to no water left. Use the towel to dry up any extra advantageous water. 4.) you are able to now particularly scrub it sturdy, devoid of the cleanser being diluted. ------ the priority must be under the rest room - or in actuality around the backside and if so, collectively as the water's off and it particularly is dry, loosen the bolts around the backside and slide the backside out - maybe there is a few previous urine it particularly is amassed there. Or it particularly is achievable that the water pass previous to the chain fix replace into particularly low and now that its fastened, the water pass grew to become established, maybe the wax or rubber gasket cracked, inflicting water to leak out from the backside and then it collects and scents. i've got carried out some small homestead upkeep, and it particularly is not uncommon to have some plimbing that needs fix and is not getting suited water tension, then as quickly as fastened, cracks an gasket that regulate into previous or another area that regulate into previous, yet in simple terms putting on while the tension replace into low. the two way, you will discover out by emptying the rest room of any water this way. while refilling, in simple terms make constructive the backside is guard in case you have moved it, and turn the water on complete blast and it will top off.

I'll go with the spoonful of bleach idea but, I'm pretty sure the smell is from the bowl. The air vent is probably plugged in the wall from the roof. If it continues and gets worse you'll have to call a plumber in to have that vent from the roof flushed. It's probably the methane smell from the septic or the plumbing lines.
