I thik you cn look at COmpaq.. a bit cheap, but sturdy.. pickup AMD make chips.. Semparon should be ideal..
In Case you want only Intel, then you can look at Celeron or a P4
it should cost you around 400K, including a CRT monitor
Other cheaper but good brands in the US would be Systemax, Emachines, Polywell, Cyber Power and MicroExpress. The last 2 are on MSNs top 5 Value for Money Desktops in the US

If you are writing in from India, then Zenith or Sahara or Intex have decently configured branded PCs that you can get for 20-25K Rupees
But COmpaq should stand you in good stead.

I bought an e-machines system from Best Buy.

If you want the machine for games then check what specifications the latest games require.

Wal-mart sell some bundled systems as well.

Take a bit of time and shop around.

why not amd pc's their cpu's are cheaper than intel's and just as good if not better in some cases and thus you can buy a faster pc for less if it has an amd cpu in it...intel are greedy gits

for the price of a single core p4 system you can buy a dual core amd cpu based system

no no no. do NOT get a dell pc. they use cheap parts and also use cheap labour thus why their products are so cheap.
i would recommed acer, try www.shopacer.co.uk. pc's are going really cheap these days and with really high specifications.
or why not try a comparison website.
eg www.kelkoo.co.uk
www.pricerunner.co.uk
www.ciao.co.uk

all these sites will show you websites that will have pc's and prices, etc.

Just be sure it has a PCI Express16 slot so the video card is upgradable.

Dell has great deals and is pretty good. And, for gaming, AMD is ahead of Intel.

You can try Dell.
HP is more expensive.
You can go to zdnet.com for recommendations.
If you ask a computer shop to build a PC for you, it is cheaper, but the warranty is an issue.

Go to PC World they have machines from £299 upwards.
Chat to them there as they are very knowledgeable and fair.

Build your own? This is usually cheaper. If you do not know how to build your own, you could always get all the parts and get someone to put them all together for you. This way you can have exactly what you want. (And a lovely case =])
