You're not supposed to have excessive smoke coming from your car motor. There can be a few reasons.

1. If the smoke is white in color, then you could possibly have a cracked cylinder head, or a cracked intake manifold. At the very least, bad gaskets.

2. If the smoke is gray/black in color, then you are burning motor oil. This tells me that you have what is called, "blow-by" which means that motor oil is passing between the cylinder walls and the piston rings. The cause could be either worn piston rings, or scored up cylinder walls. This would be expensive to fix.

Hope this helps you.

-Cars that smoke (exhaust) -usually smoke because of a condition inside the cylinders where the piston rings are: (1) ill fitted (carbon- build-up) (2)broken or severely worn (3) has sat-without operation in humid weather allowing the fuel and/or oil to absorb moisture from the air. When the smoking is caused by bad rings it is called-blow-by. The moisture can be eliminated by draining and replacing both fuel and oil. Inattention to any of these problems can result in damage to the engine.

Yes this is normal for a high mileage well used car. If it is nothing special just keep the oil changed and drive it. No worries. As stated above you probably have blow by or need a valve job. Most likely both. If you want it to last as is, don't "stomp" on it anymore.

stunning to work out that as time passes not something differences. In 1969 I confirmed up at intense college with a Plymouth RoadRunner that I had surely offered with my own money. the version between you and me is that i did not provide a ratzazz approximately what all of us mentioned approximately me or my vehicle on the grounds that could have made it worse; and that i did not have the internet to bypass whining approximately it the two. What I did became race a number of those arrsseholes and that i took their allowance money. there's a undeniable degree of delight in that.

nope, not normal. What color is the smoke? If it is black it means raw fuel is not being burned properly and you have a fuel system problem or a vacuum leak. If smoke is a blue color it is oil and is a result of a worn engine. Do you have to add oil frequently? How is your gas mileage?

If it's white smoke, the seals are shot and coolant is entering the cylinders. If it's black smoke, get a tuneup or have it checked out. Whatever it is, get it checked out soon. Try to save a few cents, you could end up with more damages than if you'd caught it early.
