if the player receiving the ball jumps over the half way line into the front court, and catches the ball in the air, ends up on the other side of the line, with both feet and the ball, and continues to dribble from there, is this cross-court?

Your position is considered to be where you were last in contact with the floor. So if that player receives a pass from a teammate in the front court, it should be called as a backcourt violation.

If the player has possession of the ball BEFORE he crosses back court then it is a violation. The player can start from the other side of the court and take possession of a pass in the back court as long as he has established position there first.

No! What are the guys who answered above thinking? It doesn't matter if you've crossed the court. If the ball goes out-of-bounds, you can still pass it in on the oppostie side of the court.

I think so. Once the ball goes over the line and has possession of an offensive player, it can't go back.

Position depends where you started from. You start on one side, you end on the other, you're a violation.
