in first position, if i completely pull up thru my knees and lock them, my heels canNOT stay together. whats causing this? i know its an anatomy thing but what?

its actually not that big of a problem... if you have hyperextended knees then its physically impossible for you feet to stay together. this may seem a little frusterating but just think how beautiful your hyperextended lets will look in your extensions especially arabesque...
it could also be a matter of a tight achilles tendon so make sure you stretch that a lot... also try really pulling up through your hips more than you knees because that will rotate your whole leg and make it easier for you heels to stay together

It means your hyper extended..just keep your legs as straight as you can and pull your knee caps up...or keep your heels 1-2 inches apart when your in first position.

I'm having a hard time visualizing this but it sounds like tight (or weak) hamstring or periformis muscles.
