I am trying to hook up my sisters compaq notebook to an older television. I understand the concept of what needs to happen.

I cand figure out how to tell if we have the correct video card.

There is both an rca and vga spot on the side of the notebook... What would you suggest I buy?

I have access to a s-cable converter to make it work on an old tv. Any other advice would be appreciated!!

just use the rca cable from your vcr or dvd player. there should be a button that switches automaticaly from lcd to vga. its usualy the "fn" (function button) and one of the f-keys. or you can switch it in the display settings from the control panel.

Assuming your equipment is a typical computing device, then the video card is placed on the returned in the direction of the backside in between the growth slots, or on the motherboards returned panel that's in basic terms above the growth slots. it fairly is going to likely be the device that your video exhibit connects to. in case you have an S-Video out on your card then all you surely need to do is connect an S-Video cable to the pics card and the television. If all you have is a VGA connector there are adapters that convert the VGA cable to a accepted RCA cable on your television.
