Each facility has different rules about which vendors are acceptable, so it is impossible to give you a reliable answer without knowing at least the state in which the inmate is incarcerated.
I send books to inmates within California and always use Borders with no troubles at all.
To get accurate information concerning the state and facility you're dealing with, please call the facility or visit http://www.prisontalk.com

It's best to check with the inmate and or the facility where he/she is at. Usually it's not so much what store as much as what it is they will allow.
There is no problem sending from almost anywhere as it goes to the mail-room for inspection and such, but, every facility has specific rules.
Such as with books, they won't allow hardback books at almost every correction facility as the hardback can be made into a weapon. Then there is certain content that isn't allowed either.

you can order from Amazon and they will, Barns & Noble will too, you just have to check with them when you go in to see if they will ship your books. you will also want to check to see if the books you send have to be softcover books (the facility i work at they can only have softcover books sent in all others get sent back). but just ask when you go in even some of the small "mom & pop" book stores will ship your stuff for you. best of luck to you.
