How old are you? Menstrual cycle or better know as your period.. It is the time of the month that a woman's body expels the blood that had been in the uterus for the purpose of nourishment for the new baby. If the woman did not get pregnant at that time the body had no need for this blood and pushes it out. It can take 2 to 5 days to get it all out. This will start when you are around 11 or 12 It is called puberty

The menstrual cycle is a woman's fertility cycle. The first day of a period is usually considered the first day of her cycle. Various hormones act to perpare her body for ovulation and conception. Fertile fluid builds up before ovulation. Once the egg is released, the corpus luteum secretes progesterone which aids in building up and maintaining the endometrium for a baby to implant. This is called the luteal phase. If there is no baby conceived (or if there are problems w/ progesterone production or other luteal phase issues), the corpus luteum dies after 12-16 days and the woman has her period (also called menses). If there is baby conceived and it successfully implants, the baby secretes HCG (hormone detected by pregnancy tests) which tells the corpus luteum to continue to secrete progesterone. The progesterone maintains the endometrium so the baby can continue growing. After about 3 months, the baby's placenta takes over production of progesterone.

The mestrual cycle is the monthly cycle a woman's body goes through, including her period and ovulation, all the way to the next period. It starts on the first day of your period and lasts till the day befroe your next period. Some women also refer to being on their period as being on "their cycle", but really the cycle lasts all month. "Menstrual" refers to menstruation, the act of a woman's uterus shedding its lining, which is what is happening when you have your period.
