Learning to cope with changes in life patterns is essential in overcoming loneliness.
It has been posited that loneliness is "the only disease that can be cured by adding two or more cases together."
Breaking the cycle of loneliness requires finding its cause, then identifying any existing dysfunctional ways of dealing with it (hiding away, drinking alcohol, sleeping). The next recommended steps usually include identifying the settings and conditions under which one feels willing to communicate with others, and finally encouragement to take the 'risk' of contacting new people or former acquaintances.
It should be remembered that feeling lonely is a common human emotion experienced by everyone at times (and therefore is not a defect). Intimate friendships take time to develop, and sometimes it is useful to help deal with the loneliness by sharing your experiences with someone else.
Medication can be a good solution to your situation. But remember to consult a professional.
Another treatment for both loneliness and depression is pet therapy, or animal-assisted therapy, as it is more formally known. Some studies and surveys, as well as anecdotal evidence provided by volunteer and community organizations, indicate that the presence of animal companions -- dogs, cats, and even rabbits or guinea pigs -- can ease feelings of depression and loneliness among elderly people in nursing homes, for example.
Hope this helps ...

Normally I try not to get polictical with my answers but to the people whom are so quick to jump on the drug band wagon and tempt others with them as well, may I remind you that even if you do decide to go on anti-depressants, they are meant to help you deal with the problem not cover it up. This means that at some point in time you should ween yourself off of them so you are able to keep yourself mentally positive without the crutch of drugs.
To answer your question about depression and lonliness...the first thing you need to realize is that YOU are not ALONE. And it's okay to be depressed once in a while. It's when you are depressed ALL the time that it should be considered an issue. Depression is necessary to some extent as a way for the body to cycle itself. Just like joy, love and all other emotions, you are human and need to express all at some point in time.
Second, you need to ask yourself what you want. Too often people seek out relationships to fill voids of emptiness and lonliness. The truth is that the only person who can do that is yourself. Relationships aren't meant to be something that should be used for the wrong reasons. Otherwise you end up settling for less than wha is best for you as an individual.
Lastly, love is not something you seek out and find. It exists and grows because you let yourself love yourself. As a result, those whom believe they have the right to be happy start to not only attract those who bring a positive light to their life but also realize that closeness is something found in all aspects of life. The minute you start looking for what you already have, is the moment you lose what you aready have...thus feeling lonley.

First, find something enjoyable to do to keep you busy so that you won't have time to think and become depressed. Second, have some regular aerobic physical exercises at least 20-30 minutes a day, five days a week, Third, go to consult a medical doctor specialized in mental health for professional advice and, if necessary, medication.
Take care, lots of people in the world suffer like you and can get over it soon.

You need to get out and socialize. Join the gym, or take a class at your local college, or adult school. It will make you feel so much better. Don't just sit there, the depression will only get worse. When you stop loOKing for someone, that's when miracles happen! Do something with yourself. You'll be ok! You can do this! :)

I always have that same sudden burst of a depressed empty feeling...find a hobby you really enjoy and keep yourself busy...if you can, try to go out more with your few friends...try to talk to more people. Try St. John's Wort...they're herbal pills with the same effect as antidepressants...just look it up to find out more about it. It'll just make you not care as much about little things like that.

You could see a psychiatrist and get medication for depression to cure it, you might have a chemical imbalance; thats what i had. A lot of people are depressed and seek help from a doctor. It worked for me. You can meet people either through work, at church, or school. Working out and eating healthy also help against depression. Hope this helps.

You need to spend the time that you find yourself alone, reading some motivational books and writing out your goals. You need to concentrate on what you like and love. Build confidence and walk out there knowing that you can make a friend anytime if you want to.

eh,
The grass is always greener.
It is always better being on the other side.
Singles wish they were married and the married wish they were single.
If you were in a relationship, your question would be more like "My significant other is driving me nuts what can I do?".
Take your pick.
Just try to stay half-way normal in the process.
Too many psychotic married people and lonely people out there.
