I am a 9th grader living in the state of Tennessee, and my Advanced World History is terrible. She is very unorganized. I have been wainting for 7 weeks to take a quiz that I missed when I was on an excused absence from the principal. I have video on my cell phone of there being books, pens, pencils, etc. being throwm and other students getting kicked the bad part is this is going on while she is IN THE ROOM. Our classes is an hour and a half she may only teach for maybe 35 minutes if we are lucky, because the class will get out of hand. She doesn't give detenions because she doesn't want to stay afterschool. She has also NEVER wrote anyone up. Probably, only four other students and myself are actually trying to learn, BUT I AM BASICALLY BEING DENIED THAT. What can I do? Is she breaking the No Child Left Behind Act? PLEASE HELP :-)

Aww... lol no she isn't breaking the NCLB but she is breaking the Code of Ethics that she a teacher is held accountable for. As far as the video goes, you have no permission for it, don't use it, you could get in trouble. But, if she is depriving you of an education and you have talked to her about it, then go to the top. Go to the principal and if they don't do any thing go to the district superintendent. Go all the way to the top! Fight for it!!!
:)
But, sadly you will find that with a lot of teachers. Teachers are burnt out, under paid, and over worked. But first talk to her nicely!!! Give her a chance to help you!! :)

And just to add a little side note to the other answers, NCLB is not a good thing for failing schools anyway, like the one that you seem to attend. I agree, you should have your parents make a formal complaint.
It also sounds like your classmates have a problem with respecting your teacher, and she doesn't get around to teaching much because of the behavioral issues involved. If at all possible, try to set a good example for your classmates and encourage them that learning is important to you and they are being disrespectful.

Have your FATHER come in and complain. Trust me, they will listen to him much more than to anyone else. Give him all of the information and the video. What exactly would you like the outcome to be? You should know that it is next to impossible to fire a teacher with tenure. However, she can be ordered to take additional classes and she can be put on probation. Do you want to be transferred to another class? That is possible, too.
I am very sorry that you are in this situation. Teachers like this one make it bad for everyone. I wish you luck.

i taught high school for years & taught history. well. yes, from what you are describing, she is very disorganized. it's a shame but what you have to do is write down all you have observed with dates, times, who's also in attendance, etc. go to the principal with this & if that doesn't bring results, there is always the district superintendent (or whatever you call him/her). that's the principal's boss. as far as the violation of the 'no child left behind'? i don't think so. all burden with that one is squarely on your shoulders. you do have more than one course, right? good luck!

This is an advanced class?

First go to your teacher and discuss what you can do to help out in the class. Have your parents meet with the teacher.

[if you've already discussed the problems with this teacher then move on to making your complaints known to others]

Write a paper itemizing your complaints.

Discuss this situation with your parents and the school counselor.

Have your parents visit with the principal to discuss the problem.

Ask to be transferred to another class.

When the class gets out of hand, use your cellphone to call the school office to send someone to help the teacher control the class.

I feel sorry for yu because it looks like you want to learn. You need to approach your parents who will in turn approach the principal...(hope they are available). use the phone as proof. Get into another class if possible.

You should talk to your parents and have them begin to complain to the school. She is violating numerous laws and education statutes. If I pulled that nonsense in my classroom I would be fired and stripped of my license. DO NOT TRY TO COMPLAIN YOURSELF. Get your parents to fight the fight for you. If they refuse, then ask the principal to make a surprise visit or even show the video. You deserve a chance to learn, she has no right to put your education and safety in peril.

P.S. She IS in violation of NCLB.

Shes having a hard time there, maybe you should try and talk to her about creating study groups in class or maybe in seperated rooms.
