I love helping people & agree that more should be done here at home & abroad but I don't get the sudden celebrity craze to save the world especially africa. I mean did I miss something in like the last year or two that suddenly change things because most if not all the things going on in Africa & that celebrities are suddenly preaching about have been going on for years & even before Bush yet now suddenly the blinders come off & on top of that I don't see or hear them doing anything or donating money but they can get paid to ask us for it? I want to save the world & undo things that have been wrong but shouldn't they do something to? It doesn't seem fair that they ask us to do something yet do nothing & even get paid to ask us to do something or spend money on things like Dufar or Ruwanda that have been going on for years even decades like the world was peaceful & equal during Clinton or before. Even without Bush in office anytime Africa would still be shunned by the world sad but true

This is far from being something new.

George Harrison (my favorite Beatle) , organized the Concert for Bangladesh back in 1972.

The "We are the World" recording & fundraising effort by a bunch of artists took place in 1984, & there have been many similar concerts & fundraising efforts since then.

This is way prior to EITHER Bush !!

It sounds to me like you arent necassarily saying your views politicly for or against bush just trying to make a point that celebrates seem to be having this save the world & doing a lot of politicly & charity mumbo jumbo lately related to places like Africa & third world countries while at the same time neglecting things at home & most importantly while they don't practice what they are trying to preach by putting their time & money into the very causes they are trying to get joe smo to right? I agree with you & that this goes beyond Bush even Clinton & even the first Bush. I see your point at the hypocriscy of Hollywood lately & even the causes since most have been as you said going on for years especially in Africa. I also agree that Social security, welfare, homelessness, runaways, & other social issues should be address at home as well as the less fortunate in the world but know that you can't fix the systems until you weed out the dictators & corruptions at both levels & you can't do that while your basicly giving away money without goals or stipulations in order to continue. On a national level Welfare is flawed because a large number of people abuse it & thus get free money which of course takes from those who really deserve it & obviously as long as someone is giving away money people even just a small few will corrupt & abuse it. As for social security that problem is the government over many years & administrations borrowed & borrowed usually to fund these hopeless programs & pay down the debt while never paying it back or at least not with interest & so now with the help of inflation & the age of baby boomers there's no longer enough money to cover the costs & that again is sadly the system & work of the politicians of all parties & like Africa years of neglect by the world. I know you were focusing on the celebrities & their hypocristy more then trying to be politicly but politicly or not you make a good point. The world & celebrities should do their own parts & stop relaying on everyone else to do the work. Its sad that Madonna or George Clooney or that physco Barbara Strisand get paid to do their commericals & to make a huge deal & plead for people to do something on issues & events that have been going on for years & are nothing new even though the celebrity tries to make it sound that it is all the while never lifting a finger themselves to support the very causes they are asking us to support. Ophra Winfrey Bill Gates or Warren Buffet seem to be the only celebrities that come to mind that actually put their money where their mouths are & practice what they preach. Even Bono who seems to have started this craze I have never heard of donating a dollar to anything of his own causes. I totally agree its sad that celebrities dont.

What ever gets their names in the papers.

I am with you. When I get paid, I make sure all my bills are paid BEFORE I go giving any to special olympics.

We need to do the same as a nation. Before we send millions to africa for AIDS, and BILLIONS to isreal in foreign aid, we should make sure social security is funded, the debt is paid off, all Americans are fed, clothed, and there are no other bills to pay here...then we can worry about starving pigmies in boogady-boogady.

Celebs have got this save the world thing rather than taking care of ourselves. I think it must be something in the air and/or water in Los Angeles. The forget the obvious first steps to EVERYTHING, and go on to steps 4 and 5.

You know, I do admire Madonna for adopting a baby from Africa, in spite of having the bend the rules in her favor to do it.

Then again, there are plenty of needy kids right here in the good old US of A who could use a better situation. I'd sure like these rich celebrity types to do that instead.
