Ok, I know how to take a computer apart and I know how to put one together. What I need to know is what are all the parts that go into a laptop? Motherboard and cpu is obvious, I just want to make sure that I get everything that is not so obvious. And I know there is differant power sources to get but I don't know which is the right one. Basicly I would just like a list of all componants so I can research what I need. I just can't afford to get an already built computer right now. Also, if anyone knows the cheapest place to get laptop parts I would be ever so grateful, Thanks

The problem with building a laptop is that the parts are often vendor-specific. For example, if you have a Thinkpad case, most likely only some items like the hard drive an dmemory are generic enough that anyone will work. The keyboard, motherboard, CD/DVD, display, etc. are all made only to fit the IBM Thinkpad laptop case.

So, if you have the laptop case, I think only the following items MAY be generic enough to pick up at a computer store:
Hard disk
memory
cpu

There really is not place to get em
but
www.newegg.com
you cna find some cpus and RAM there
just google motherboards to find some.
maybe ebay
and a videocard there too

Just to let you know, EVERYTHING has to be very close to perfect for you to have a functional laptop
you wireing has to be exceptionaly, insanely good.
If you screw up, there will be a heat issue
or an issue of you not being able to close the case.
Just buy a laptop from dell and mod it from there
take the ram and cpu out
sell em
and get new ones.
There are no laptop motherboards for sale that i know of.
and same for videocards or soundcards.
and harddrives

It is still not yet easy to build a laptop. The parts are going to cost you more individually than already put together. I'd suggest you buy a used laptop. It'll actually be cheaper than building one. Then you can just save up for a good one.
