Absolutely untrue. Western Europe is far more lazy than America. The concept of the 24 hour store does not exist in Europe. Americans on average work many more hours. Europeans on the other hand, take weeks and weeks of vacations and look forward to their pensions at very early ages.
In France, the government has a law that people in their early 20s cannot be fired until after 2 years. This was a problem because lazy employees could not be removed, thus, companies simply stopped hiring them. When the government tried to remove this law and encourage people to work harder, enormous riots erupted and cars were lit on fire. France has about a 10% unemployment rate, much higher than the US.
And overall, they have higher taxes in European countries and more government handouts (healthcare and such).

NOT! Do American workers get 3 hour government-sanctioned "siestas" in the middle of the day as they do in Spain? Do Americans get perpetual unemployment benefit as they do in the UK? Do Americans get six weeks of annual vacation on top of national holidays plus an extra month for being in full-time employment for over a year, as they do in France and Germany?
The work ethic is still alive and well in the U.S. Unfortunately, it doesn't apply to those on long-term welfare or bogusly claim disability benefit. Those people are bone lazy and should be helped and/or forced back into work.

Hours worked per year
#1 Australia: 1,814 hours
#2 Japan: 1,801 hours
#3 United States: 1,792 hours
#4 Canada: 1,718 hours
#5 United Kingdom: 1,673 hours
#6 Italy: 1,591 hours
#7 Sweden: 1,564 hours
#8 France: 1,453 hours
#9 Norway: 1,337 hours
. . . The increase in how much Americans work reflects two trends. The first is that the proportion of working-age Americans who work has risen as more women enter the work force. In other industrialized countries, that trend has been offset by higher overall unemployment, earlier retirement and declining work-force participation of young people. Last year, 71% of the working-age population in the U.S. had jobs, compared with an OECD average of 65%.
The second factor is that among Americans who have jobs, the number of hours worked per year has edged down only slightly in recent decades, whereas hours worked have fallen sharply for workers in other countries due to shortened work weeks and increased vacation and holidays.

Some rectifications on what is said above about the work in France:
1)The rate of productivity per worked hour in France is the higher of the world: French workers crossed from 39h till 35h but companies ask them to produce the same work in 35 hours that they made previously in 39 hours. The workload is higher and the stress is intense. Many of French people wish to return at 39 hours because they work harder while their salary fell.
2)The riots in France had no relation with the law about work, this riots began because of the provocations of the Secretary of the interior after that two young boys of suburb died electrocuted, pursued by the police. It is the revolt of the young people of the suburbs that took place in France.
3) When the government tried to change the law of work in France, there were effectively people walking in the streets. Because this law concerned only the conditions of dismissal of the young people and because the young people fought against this discrimination. This law will be adopted by the next government, but will concern all the French people, without discrimination.

If we are so lazy, why does America have the highest output per man hour worked and work more hours than nearly every other country on the planet? I work very hard and am grateful to have the freedom to choose what I work on and how much I earn.

Maybe we're all lazy cuz everything is given to us. Ever since the New Deal America has been plagued with the idea that the government will bail out the citizenry. But we're probably one of the most lazy countries cuz we have the most cash money and being "poor" here would be considered fabulously rich by many others standards.

Only Japan works more hours than we do.
No ones at home.
And most will never have one of their own.
Or health care, higher education, or a better job, because they do not have the time or the money.
What is it they are supposed to be doing? What work are they not doing that makes them lazy?
If its taking care of their communities and the earth we share, yes Americans could be called lazy.
If you mean paid work...depends...most of us work two jobs.
In a family, thats usually both mom and dad here.
Does it bother you we have time for sleep and use the restroom?
Does lazy mean we don't do enough for you?
Please tell...........
what is this "work" that is so important that we are not doing?

Not the laziest. Americans work more hours per year than any other industrialized society except Japan. Americans have fewer public holidays and shorter annual vacations than most. The Puritan ethic is alive and well. Pleasure is sin but work, work, work is Gawd's plan for you.

the most hated international locations contained in the global are u . s ., Israel, uk, Iran and North Korea. Please do no longer hearken to Bella, she has no information of the genuine Israeli/Palestinian conflict. u . s . is the most hated through out the global because the u . s . is continuously attempting to intervene with different international locations politics. each and each of the CIA covert missions to regulate oil, ect. Israel is the most hated because for one, Israel has the well-known man or woman of David on its flag. Its also a debated topic about Jews stealing land and such. The conflict is amazingly complicated yet I assure you we do not bomb civilians on objective for the interesting of it. uk because they promised the muslims Palestinian land which they did no get yet. because there are over a million.a million billion muslims contained in the global, they are hated a lot. Iran and NK and the nuclear scares have the global on part. also the subculture way of existence those international locations have a frowned upon.

We enjoy the freedom to be whatever we want. That is why we live in the greatest country in the world. If we want to be lazy, we have that right. Most of us choose to work hard. If we did not, then please explain how we are one of the most economicaly prosperous countries in the world today. That wouldn't happen if we were all lazy.
