I was wondering if anyone new how to get a western digital hard drive model # WD800JD to show up during windows xp installation? The drive is working i can install windows vista, and linux on it and it shows up in the bios. When i boot up the installation disk and hit enter to continue to the part where you select the device to install windows on, it says that there in no drive installed and tells me to reboot. Again this is a Western Digital model # WD800JD SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive.

Do you have this RAID'ed? It may just be so new XP does not have built in drivers. During XP install, it will say press F6 if you have a driver disk for your HD Maybe you need to download a driver disk from wd.

It's and 80 gig drive. First dump the Vista as it is crap right now. Then you need to create a partition so that when you install XP it can format it to NTFS. And remove your Linux too and get a dvd copy of Knoppix live. You can run it from the dick without loading it on to your drive. It is a "Live " disk. You can mail me and I will send a copy too you at no cost.

A lot of times, Xp wont recognize drives so small. I mean, XP takes almost 3 gigs to install on itself.

Can you please tell me why are you multibooting with 3 different operation system? Just being curious...

There shouldn't be wrong with the BIOS as long as it said it installed.

Where did you get that harddrive anyway?
