because your shower valve is NOT a pressure balanced valve. Meaning it is probably an older valve or a cheap valve. A pressure balanced shower valve has a compensator inside, so when the toilet is flushed and the cold pressure is reduced the valve will adjust itself accordingly. The other less likely cause is your plumbing is piped incorrectly meaning, they are supplying more than 1 fixture from a 1/2 inch line, but, even if this were the case, a pressure balanced valve still compensates for less cold water pressure. It's basically an anti-scald device.

Taking a shower uses a mixture of hot and cold water. When someone flushed the toilet it uses cold water and that can reduce the pressure on the cold water line to the shower and increase the proportion of hot water in the mix.

because the shower, toilet and sink all have the same cold water source. So when the toilet is flushed the toilet begins to fill up with cold water thus taking some away from the shower supply. If your house is piped intelligently the shower will have first dibs on all water and not have a temperature fluctuation.

because your taking away cold water to flush the toilet. people have been burned that way. best not to run cold water when someone is in the shower and don't flush the toilet.

well you see ! when you flush the toilet it uses the water presure and then that in turn reduces the flow of water to all taps, the hot water may not slow as much as cold as it is turned on more than the cold to start with and another thing is that hot water service (boiler) is pressured slightly by the heat enrgy and therefor actually refills with a slight suction affect so the flow is not reduced as much as the cold which uses all pump pressure.

Because the toilet uses cold water. When you run cold water, it takes away from the cold water coming through the shower, thus leaving you with warmer water.

Pretty obvious.
There is less cold in the "mix" of water entering your shower because the cold is diverted to the toilet.

the way the pipes are linked together and stuff makes it so you take more water into the shower and whatever temperature its on, the new water coming will be slightly hotter or colder.

To save on plumbing costs ,a lot of plumbers run the same waterline with a tee to supply the shower and sink and toilet instead of running a separate water line (cold water,that is)That saves on installing extra shut off valves having to be installed to cut off the hot and cold water. This way of plumbing allows you to shut off all water ,hot and cold, to all the taps with just 2 valves and a way to save a few dollars on plumbing supplies
