The top layer of my bruised to nail peeled off (only half of it though) is this the nail healing? Should I leave the other half alone? Will the other half peel off too?

I would guess that the nail is healing.

You should probably leave the other half alone for now. It may fall off also but it's not guaranteed to happen. If you're concerned about it you could have a podiatrist take a quick look at it. They might prescribe an anti-bacterial ointment to put on it or they may just leave it as it is. Being a specialist they'd know best.

Definitely leave the other half alone. The nail will eventually grow back. You might want to put a bandage on it to protect the nail and not injure it further.

Yeah, leave it alone as much as possible. Maybe a little filing on any rough edges. It will grow back. Bad injury, huh? I've had it happen more than once and it will grow back and look either normal or close to normal. Don't worry.

Sounds like it's healing. You can always rub vasoline into it before you go to bed and before you put your socks/shoes on in the morning.
