I woman comes into a clothing store and trys to return worn and shrunken items that she purchased about a week ago. You can tell by the smell and wrinkled labels that it was washed. She denies it. She wants her money back like Walmart she says would do. She has unruly children which run all over the store when she's there and believe me cause disruption. She is a student and works in an industry that could potentially hurt you PR wise because she is the loud mouth type. As the store owner, what would you do? Give her her money back. Refuse because they were washed and she lied about it. Maybe store credit equalling her past purchase. What as the store owner would you do??

store credit. You need to put sign up with your store policies, such as no returns without receipts, must have price tags on etc. You need a sign "refuse to service anyone you want." don't let her come back to your store..
Good luck, I knew a lady that her friends would go to store and buy an outfit for one night and then return them back to the store for full refund. Thats really disgusting, because I would hate to go buy something and pay good money for it and someone has already used it and washed it. If i wanted to purchased used clothes i would shop at garage sales, thrift store, good will.

Hi. I work as a sales associate in a retail store in the United States. I decided to answer some questions from other parts of the world. So, here is my answer: In cases like this, what I see my manager do is to give such a person store credit. It may not please the customer, but at least it's better than sending her away empty handed.

I would offer her a discount on a future purchase. If she was still loud and obnoxious then I would offer her a store credit. Make sure that she knows that you are making an exception and this will be the first and LAST time you will do this for her.
To avoid all future problems suggest that she buy her clothing in Wal-Mart.
Good Luck.

I would give her a store credit but let her know that you will do it this time for her but next return the tags must be in place and accompany her receipt. I hate people that do this b/c it just makes things difficult for us honest folk.

PS Walmart is so strict on their return policy now she'd never be able to return anything like that there...

I married a woman who does exactly the same thing, albeit not as blatant as the person described in your example. Probably give her store credit based on the lowest price of the items just to get her out of my hair.

After the first time, I would refuse because she is blatantly abusing the system.

I would never return her money back..........
let her creat tention i am sure after a few days she will stop trying.

Worst case senario if she gets starts getting on ur nerves and u cant take her no more......
Tell her u can exchange ur cloth with anything else having the price equal or more to the product you want 2 return. I don not think you should return her money back.

If she is as obnoxious as she sounds, she cannot really hurt you with bad PR, because other people know how she behaves, as well. I'd go with store credit, post policies in the store, and let her know in no uncertain terms that this is the only time you will offer her this courtesy.
Good luck.

I'VE BEEN IN RETAIL FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. I WOULD ASK HER WHY SHE DONT WANT IT NO MORE. BUT THE FAIR THING TO DO ( SINCE YOU CAN TELL SHE WORE THE CLOTHES) IS TELL HIS YOU'LL EXCHANGE A THE ITEMS FOR (NEW) ITEMS OF THE SAME BRAND AND STYLE,, MAYBE A DIFFERENT SIZE. BECAUSE IM PRETTY SURE SHE TRIED ON THE CLOTHES BEFORE SHE PAYED FOR THEM , NOW A DAYS NO ONE BUYS CLOTHES W/OUT TRYING THEM ON. IF SHE ACCEPTS GOOD, IF NOT YOU CAN GIVE HER STORE CREDIT BUT TELL HER ITS ONLY GOOD FOR CLOTHING AND YOU'LL INPUT HER INFO (NAME, ADDRESS....) IN THE SYSTEM AND SHE'LL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO RETURN OTHER STAFF IN A 6 MONTH- YEAR PERIOD. BECAUSE YOU CANT BE GIVING STUFF AWAY. IT'LL AFFECT YOUR LABOR.

I would not give her money back. If she is this type of person those other people will know as far as PR goes.

It is hard to compete with Wal-mart. I would not give her money back. I would suggest she shop at wal-mart if she wants to use their return policy.
