Backup your system to a blank Disc.... Insert your OS CD. Note that OS means " Operating system" it is your windows software... When you have inserted the OS Disc, perform a fresh installation of Windows... This will completely clean your computer, including all viruses an spyware. In other words, your computer will go back to when you first bought it... Make sure to install back the drivers on your computer, such as your sound drive so that you can have sound on your computer, and your video card driver, etc.
Message from Dell.
Note: install McAfee 2007 on your computer to protect your computer against viruses next time.
Have a great day. Message from Dell tech

Yeah. you should be good to go. Just back up you data first. But I think that should be a last ditch effort. Run some scans first. What viruses, spyware or problems do you have? You may be able to take care of them without resorting to a format. I'd need more info on the problems.

If you format the harddrive you will be deleting all the information off of the drive. Then you can reinstall windows and it will be as if you just bought the computer from the store. You'll have to setup every program you need, but, it will be virusfree!
Just make sure you install an AntiVirus program. Also get a program like Spybot Search & Destroy (anti spyware program) to also get rid of some programs that slow down your computer.

Sure Angela, but that's like burning down the house to get rid of a roach. Why not just download and install anti-virus & spyware, and use a firewall ?? If you go thru the process of reformatting & re-installing, you'll still need to prevent these problems by using anti-virus, spyware, and firewall.

The answer is Yes. And when you'll keep visiting those websites again--then hopefully you'll get those viruses/worms/spywares again.
Good Luck.

yes... but most programs that do that allow you to keep certain ones too but if you want to re-format it (clear it up) completly all viruses should be gone unless they are permanent

If you format then yes it will be completely new. If you keep current file structure, I'm pretty sure you will still be ok.
