There is a natural remedy called Red Rice Yeast that acts very similar to Niaspan which is a medication that is prescribed. You need to be careful of this, however, because it can give you flushing, just like Niacin does. You can try the non-flushing kind, but I don't find that it works as well as the kind that flushes the system.

You can also try Milk Thistle, which helps to heal the liver. The Liver is the organ that produces cholesterol. When it is congested, then it tends to produce cholesterol by the score. Milk Thistle helps to reduce the congestion in the liver. I think i would try this first, then add ONE pill of the Red Rice Yeast at bedtime with a very light snack, (crackers or something like it). I hope this helps, and that you are feeling better and not so worried about your heart.

Diet and exercise always play a part in recovery of health. You might research the Macrobiotic Diet by Michio Kushi, which will help all sorts of health issues that you may experience in conjunction with the high cholesterol. Walking is ultimately the best overall exercise that you can get. Barefoot is best, but if you can't go barefoot, just get out in the fresh air and sunshine and BE HAPPY.

Best wishes to you, my friend, and good luck!

The best thing you can do to reduce your cholesterol is to watch your diet. These days the cholesterol content of most foods is listed in the nutrition info on the packaging. So use these when selecting food at the grocery store. Also, you can find info on the web concerning the cholesterol content of meats, etc. Watch what kind of oils and margerine you use. With this your cholesterol should come right on down. I don't know of any herbs or supplements that help.

Try controlling it with your diet first. There are several prescriptions that help lower cholesterol, but they can cause liver damage in some people. Also, do a little research on raising your HDL's.

If you're in Australia then try using Proactiv or Logicol they are quite natural as they are easily purchased from the supermarket.

These margarines can reduce cholestrol reabsorption about 5 times and contain phytosterols which are plant sterols that help lower cholesterol levels!

Get your chloresterol checked. Make sure your doctor examine the ratio of HDL to LDL. Chloresterol is more than just a number.

Try taking garlic, getting plenty of exercize, and a good diet.

Your liver prodices cholestrol and you may not be able to do that much about that aspect of cholesterol.
