Our ethnic background is African-American.. We chose these names because they were unique and we can't decide on which one.

I'd say pick a name that your daughter won't ever be embarrassed about. One where she could be a judge if she wanted to, and people wouldn't laugh at her juvenile sounding name. I can see you aren't the type to go for something generic, like Anna, but try to both be in agreement. However, personally, your husband's choice seems a bit more practical.

I am all for different/unique names but neither of those will benefit your child once she's school age. I am not by any means saying don't use them but maybe you should both make a list of about 10 names you each like and see if any are common. If you are set on a middle name then atleast you only have to come up with 1 instead of 2. There are MANY baby name websites that allow you to put what letter you want the name to start with and then your search will show all the names with that specific letter. For a "T" name I personally like Tatum but I am not sure what your ethnic backgroud is or if meanings are important to you.

Okay, nobody likes their name at some point in their life, (Usually between 1st and 5th grade), but, speaking from experience, it gets real old when you have to continually repeat and correct people on your names pronunciation, and I have worked with some people for five years who still don't spell my name correctly. I am a mother, I wanted my children to have unique names. I chose old traditional names that had fallen out of fashion. I also looked at the meaning of the names. Find something you are happy with, but try to remember you won't be the one answering to it for the next eighty years or so.

If you have to explain how to pronounce the name syllable by syllable, your little girl is in for a rough ride through life. Think about it a little more...her name is going to have a big impact on how she feels about herself.
