Some guys at my school need a bassist and I've also wanted to be in a rock band. I've looked around musiciansfriend.com and found some neat Ibanez guitars but I want a second opinion.

I differ with the previous answer...Ibanez makes good entry-level instruments right across the board, better than Squier by far in my opinion. This having been said, if you're just starting out you should buy whatever feels and sounds good without getting wrapped up in what the resale value is, or if you can "customize" it.

Yamaha makes great beginner's stuff too, by the way.

Usually, people would tell you to go with a Squier (by Fender), and some wouldn't because they'd say it easily falls apart. Ibanez is a good brand, but I don't think it holds it value very well. If you buy a Squier, you can sell it to someone else (if you don't want it anymore) for probably 3/4 of the price you bought it for. In my opinion, Squiers play as good as real Fenders (a well known Guitar/Bass/Amp brand). And they're built to be customized. With Ibanez, most don't have that much 'space' to be customized'. But, I like the tone of the Squier better.
