Naval piercings take a loong time to heal. A piercing may seem healed before healing is complete. This is because piercings heal from the outside in, and although it feels healed the tissue remains fragile on the inside. You just have to be patient.

I have had my naval pierced for almost two years. I still get a lot of normal discharge (lymph). Just curious- what makes you think your piercing is not healed or could possibly be infected?

It usually takes 3 – 4 months to heal, but it can take up to 12 months for some. The only difference between a healed and unhealed navel is a very small amount of redness just around the area where the ring pierces the body and it’s hardly visible. The healing time depends on a variety of factors: health, weight, diet, clothes, profession, and most importantly how carefully you care for it.

Like others have suggested, do sea salt soaks twice a day. These help soooo much. My naval piercing actually got infected last summer when I was out of the country camping, and when I got home and could do sea salt soaks the infection cleared right up.

i don't have a belly piercing, but i've heard that you should always start with a barbell and not a hoop earring. so, if you have a hoop one, that might be why the healing process is not going so well. if i were you, i would take it out, let the infection heal and try again after that.

you know it has been so long since i have peirced mine but i do remember that it stayed pussed up for about 6 months it does take a while but as long as you are cleaning it with soap there shouldnt be a problem .
try getting a cup of warm water with salt in it,bend over and hold the cup to your belly button then lay back on your back but make sure you dont spill it let it set like that for like fifteen minutes
also when you put soap on there make sure you twist your ring around so it gets in there .
