Right now I am about to upgrade my computer right now here's how it is:

amd athlon xp 2000+
512 (256 x2) mb memory
nvidia geforce 4 mx420 64mb graphics card
nFORCE MICRO-STAR MS-6373 motherboard

what kind of slot do i use for upgrading my processor? i was wanting to use an athalon 64FX dual core is this possible?
i plan on removing both 256 memory cards and replacing them with 1gb cards for 2gb of ram. Then i want to upgrade my card to something that can play the most demanding games... any help? thanks

no i am not going to be using vista, i want to play games like caesar IV the new command and conquer 3 i can't play any new games I can't even play most games because of my video card, a better processer wouldn't hurt and extra ram is always good

that board has a socket A..64fx Processors are socket 940..so no can do.

Max memory for the MS-6373 is 1.5gb,,,so if you use 2gb it will only use 1.5 or less.

check it out here: http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/k7n420pro.htm

To run those games well, would need to upgrade Mobo, vid card, and memory

Your mobo...looks like it has an AGP vid card..so last one made is the 7800..as for the processer...it's an old board if you can find them you should be able to pick up a socket A for under $100.

my advice...save your $ till you can get a dual core.and a good vid card ...thats what i'm doing..

Slot A will fit Athlon 64X2 processor. You have to check your computer catalog for that. Also check the same catalog to see if it allows to have 2 gigs of ram. If so, then it's like a piece of bread and butter.

If you mean upgrade to vista, I would hold off for just a little bit. There are still some bugs and compatibility issues that are driving users crazy right now. I know people who bought new computers and DOWN GRADED to xp.
